CP itself does not sell a 'Portugal Rail Pass'. It sells separate age-based discounts on its own network: a youth discount (up to 25 percent off Alfa Pendular and Intercidades, and 25 percent under the European Youth Card for ages 12 to 30), a half-price senior discount for anyone 65 or over on Alfa Pendular and Intercidades (25 percent from age 60 on the international Celta Porto-Vigo service), and the Golden Card (Cartão Dourado), a half-price card for pensioners of any age whose household income does not exceed the national minimum wage, valid on Intercidades, Regional, InterRegional and the Lisbon/Porto/Coimbra urban trains. Separately, Eurail/Interrail sells a 'Portugal Pass' (One Country Pass), a multi-day unlimited-travel pass valid on the Portuguese network, issued by Eurail Group G.I.E., not by CP.

Wie het mag kopen

Youth discount: age 25 or under (or 12-30 with a European Youth Card). Senior half-price: age 65+, no residency or nationality restriction. Golden Card: pensioner of any age with household income at or below the minimum wage, requires proof of income and pension status. The Eurail/Interrail Portugal Pass is restricted to non-European residents (Eurail brand) or, since the 2026 rebrand, sold under one combined Interrail name; eligibility criteria differ from the CP domestic discounts.

Hoe lang het geldt

CP discounts apply per ticket purchase for as long as the passenger holds valid ID (or the Golden Card, once issued); no separate multi-day pass validity applies. The Eurail/Interrail Portugal one-country pass is sold in 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 travel days within a 1-month window, and must be activated within 11 months of issue.

Wat het kost

Not verified as a stable published figure for the CP percentage discounts, since they apply to variable base fares (this is a percentage-off scheme, not a flat price). No CP card issuance fee is stated on the pages checked. The Eurail/Interrail Portugal Pass price is not verified here since it was not fetched directly from eurail.com; only third-party summaries were consulted, so no figure is reported.

Zitplaatsreserveringen

CP long-distance trains (Alfa Pendular, Intercidades) require seat reservation as normal when buying the discounted ticket. The Eurail/Interrail pass requires separate seat reservations for most high-speed and night trains on top of the pass itself, per third-party summaries; not independently verified on eurail.com.

Waar mensen op stuklopen

Do not confuse the two: 'Portugal Rail Pass' as a product name belongs to Eurail/Interrail, a pan-European pass issuer, not to CP. CP's own offers are ordinary percentage discount cards, not a pass. Original ID (not photocopies, unless notarised) must be shown for CP age discounts. Golden Card has an income test, so it is not available to all pensioners.
