ما تشمله

The OV-chipkaart itself is not a single fare product but the smart card used nationwide across Dutch public transport (train, bus, tram, metro and some ferries), onto which a traveller can load a prepaid balance and/or operator- or region-specific season tickets and discount subscriptions (for example NS subscriptions or student travel products). Which subscriptions are available and their prices are set individually by each transport operator or region, not by Translink as a single fixed product.

A personal OV-chipkaart requires registration with personal details; anonymous cards exist for pay-as-you-go use without subscriptions. Specific subscriptions loaded onto the card each carry their own eligibility rules (age, student status, region) set by the relevant operator.

The OV-chipkaart system is being phased out in favour of OVpay (contactless bank card and mobile payment), with Translink stating the OV-chipkaart will eventually be discontinued; OVpay does not yet support all subscriptions or travel products, so holders of subscriptions or student travel products still need the physical OV-chipkaart for now. Travellers must check in and out for every journey on every mode, and forgetting to check out results in a higher default fare being charged.
