Trafaria Praia is a passenger ferry built in 1960 that used to ply the river Tagus between Lisbon and Cacilhas until it was decommissioned in 2011. Under the direction of Joana Vasconcelos, the ferry underwent a major transformation, which included encasing the exterior of the vessel from stern to prow in a wrap-around frieze of over 7,000 traditional tin-glazed, blue-and-white, hand-painted azulejo tiles depicting 20 kilometers, or 12 miles, of the Lisbon skyline, from the Bugio Tower to the Vasco da Gama Tower. Below the ship's deck, Joana Vasconcelos covered the ceiling and walls with blue and white fabrics and crocheted pieces intertwined with LEDS creating a mysterious, dark-blue sea cave that pulsates with fairy lights and gently vibrates with the ship's engine. It envelops visitors and elicits both an intellectual and a sensorial response. The ship was shown at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013) as the Portuguese pavilion; it currently moors not far from where actual passenger ferries carry commuters across the Tagus. It is open for visits and short river cruises.

Common questions about Azores Airlines

What does Azores Airlines run?

Azores Airlines runs 88 of the Flights routes we sell, calling at 21 places across 14 countries. Those routes come from the published operator catalogue rather than from a list we wrote, so a route only appears here if the carrier actually serves it.

How much do Azores Airlines tickets cost?

The cheapest Azores Airlines fare we sell is €84.51 for one passenger, across 88 routes. The median route runs 2,696 km in a straight line. Fares include taxes, supplier fees and our service fee, so the figure here is the figure at checkout.

Are Azores Airlines tickets refundable?

Azores Airlines fares cannot be changed or refunded once booked, across all 88 routes we sell. The condition is shown again on the offer and once more before you pay, because it is the thing travellers most often get wrong.

What is the longest route Azores Airlines runs?

The longest Azores Airlines route we sell runs from Lisbon to Toronto, 5,724 km in a straight line. A median journey with this carrier takes about 3h 39m at their typical cruising speed, so the long routes are considerably more than that.

Where does Azores Airlines operate?

Azores Airlines is based in Portugal and runs routes we sell in 14 countries. The places it calls at most often are Ponta Delgada, Funchal, Lisbon. Those are computed from the routes in the catalogue rather than from anything the carrier tells us about its own network.

Where these numbers come from

Schedules, seat counts and fares are generated by our own model until the supplier contracts are signed. Places, coordinates, operators, which operator serves which pair, and every distance are real. We would rather say that on every page than let a modelled number pass for a filed one.

We cannot promise Lisboa Oriente still has a left luggage office, because plenty of stations closed theirs.
