The issuer's own terms

The detail below is quoted from the issuer's own page in the language they publish it in. We do not translate another company's conditions, because a translated condition is a condition we have changed.

We could not read the issuer's own page for this scheme, so the detail below comes from what could be established elsewhere and should be checked with the issuer before you rely on it.

What it covers
Discontinued. The Canrailpass was VIA Rail's unlimited multi-trip pass for travel across its Canada-wide network. VIA Rail withdrew all of its travel passes (including Canrailpass, its commuter passes and 'biz-pak' fare bundles) around mid-2022 while it moved to a new reservation system, which launched in November 2023. No like-for-like unlimited-travel pass has been reintroduced as a permanent product. What VIA Rail currently sells under the 'rail passes and packages' heading is a Student Pass (discounted Economy-class fares for eligible students, not unlimited travel) and periodic promotional discount programs such as the Canada Strong Pass (a government-linked seasonal discount/free-travel offer for children and young adults, explicitly described by VIA Rail as a promotion rather than a rail pass, and stated not to be combinable with any rail pass).
Who can buy it
not applicable to the discontinued Canrailpass. The current Student Pass requires verified student status; the Canada Strong Pass requires either being 17 or under and travelling with an adult, or being 18-24, with government ID, during its published booking and travel windows.
How long it lasts
not applicable to the discontinued Canrailpass. Canada Strong Pass, when running, has fixed booking and travel windows announced per season (a 2026 summer edition ran travel from 19 June to 7 September 2026).
What it costs
not verified for a current unlimited pass; Canada Strong Pass discount levels (free for 17-and-under with an accompanying adult, 25 percent off for ages 18-24) are promotional and not a stable base fare.
Seat reservations
not applicable, scheme discontinued
What catches people out
A live WebFetch of the VIA Rail 'rail passes' overview page did not return page body content (it rendered largely as navigation), so the current pass line-up above is built from search-indexed VIA Rail and VIA Rail media pages rather than a single directly-verified page render; the Canada Strong Pass promotional page itself was fetched and verified directly. Anyone searching for 'Canrailpass' today should be told plainly it no longer exists as a product.

What this does to an Orlero price

Nothing, yet. Our fares are point to point and are not adjusted for a pass or a card you hold. Use this page to work out whether the scheme is worth buying, and use search to find out what the same journeys cost without it.

Plan a trip from here

A pass only pays for itself against the journeys you actually make. Ask Ori for the trip and it will price the point to point fares our network holds, which is the number a pass has to beat.
