There are two narrow balconies visible, one on the corner (center), and one on the right side of the building above the large arched Spring Street entrance. The streets are bustling with pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Horse drawn carriages and streetcars can be seen on the streets. The bell tower of Saint Vibiana's Cathedral can be seen at left. The Bryson Block and Hollenbeck Hotel were "more flamboyant neighbors." After extensive damage during the Sylmar Earthquake in 1971, its upper four stories were demolished, leaving only the basement and the unrecognizable stripped facade of the ground floor.
