Sailings you can sleep on

An overnight crossing arrives on a later calendar day than it left. On a long route it replaces a hotel, which is why the cabin fare and the deck fare are so far apart.

How this is built

Every row comes from one snapshot of an operator-published schedule, taken on a named date. Nothing is modelled, averaged or filled in.

Fares are in euro, in the minor units the source returned, and are the prices the operator was charging for the date shown. Where two classes collapse onto one word the cheaper of the two is kept.

Every figure here is the euro amount the operator published. Where your display currency is not the euro the page converts it at a fixed rate with a stated margin, the same way the rest of the site does; the API and the CSV always return the euro minor units.

A vessel name is printed only where the source gave one that differs from the company name. Roughly a third of the rows repeat the operator in the vessel field.

Sea areas and islands are our editorial grouping of the ports in this snapshot, not an official geography. Every port belongs to exactly one sea area, so browsing the areas reaches all of them.

A ferry timetable is the most irregular in transport: three sailings a week in April, twelve a day in August, and nothing at all on a Tuesday in November. Read every date here as the date it says.

The API

The same answers as JSON, for anyone building on top of this. No key, no sign-up.

Parameters are the ones in the page address: from, to, region, island, operator and overnight. Add format=csv for a flat table.

Rate limited to 60 requests a minute per address. Over that it answers 429 with a Retry-After header.

The response shape is stable. Fields are added, never renamed or removed, and every response carries the snapshot date it came from.

The data is CC BY 4.0. Use it, sell work built on it, and credit Orlero with a link.
