Trafaria Praia is a passenger ferry built in 1960 that used to ply the river Tagus between Lisbon and Cacilhas until it was decommissioned in 2011. Under the direction of Joana Vasconcelos, the ferry underwent a major transformation, which included encasing the exterior of the vessel from stern to prow in a wrap-around frieze of over 7,000 traditional tin-glazed, blue-and-white, hand-painted azulejo tiles depicting 20 kilometers, or 12 miles, of the Lisbon skyline, from the Bugio Tower to the Vasco da Gama Tower. Below the ship's deck, Joana Vasconcelos covered the ceiling and walls with blue and white fabrics and crocheted pieces intertwined with LEDS creating a mysterious, dark-blue sea cave that pulsates with fairy lights and gently vibrates with the ship's engine. It envelops visitors and elicits both an intellectual and a sensorial response. The ship was shown at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013) as the Portuguese pavilion; it currently moors not far from where actual passenger ferries carry commuters across the Tagus. It is open for visits and short river cruises.

What the journey actually looks like

Direct or connecting, how far the route really runs, and what happens when a connection is missed.

How far it really runs
The route covers 1,775 km against 1,723 km in a straight line, a detour of 3 percent. Track and road geometry account for the difference.
Where the change is
Connections are made at Lyon, Toulouse, Geneva, Bilbao. The gap between arriving and leaving is 49 minutes, of which about 14 is walking.
If the connection is missed
The tightest connection we sell here has a 19 percent chance of not being made on the timetable alone. Part of this journey is a self transfer between separate tickets, so leave more time than the minimum and expect to check in again.

Where these numbers come from

Observed service A carrier record shows this named operator serving this named pair, and we carry that through unchanged.

Schedules, seat counts and fares are generated by our own model until the supplier contracts are signed. Places, coordinates, operators, which operator serves which pair, and every distance are real. We would rather say that on every page than let a modeled number pass for a filed one.
